Escape the rat race

The Poorhouse, no doubt much to the annoyance of his less frugal friends given the amount he drones on about it, does quite love a bit of money saving or leisurely gaining. A few articles on this site have covered topics such as getting a nice lump of cashback on your purchases, making guaranteed money by betting, getting free stuff and reclaiming ridiculous bank charges. As such it was nice to receive an email from Abi Winterburn, an even more ambitious money saver / maker who runs a site at"

Her take on life is that it a wearisome and annoying burden to be beholden to any given employer to fund your life. Even if you earn plenty it doesn't mean you can lead the lifestyle you want if work gets in your way, and worse yet if you don't earn a lot then are then both financially and time poor. To quote her:

Think about this for just one minute: your life revolves around getting dressed in the clothes that you buy for work, driving to work in a car you are still paying for in order to get to a job you need so you can pay for the clothes, pay for the car and pay for your home which you leave empty all day in order to afford to live in it... Why do we do this? Why do we go to work everyday? Surely there has got to be other, easier, nicer, ways to make money? It can't be that hard? These are all the questions I began to ask myself around the end of 2006.

Quite. The Poorhouse and associates have long dreamt of an employment-free lifestyle. Profits have been made, but not yet enough to survive on. Abi is, whilst still on her journey to financial freedom, very much ahead in the game, using both methods described on sites like this and moneysavingexpert but also emphasising the potential of investments such as property and stocks and shares. The Poorhouse has not really dabbled in such investmenty-things due to having a relative lack of knowledge at the moment, other than knowing that there is some risk involved so one shouldn't go into it willy-nilly. However, the tactics seem to have paid off for Abi so far. Browse through her site for plenty of information about ways to make and save money without being a corporate slave for the rest of your life.
