Universal Share Downloader - an easy way to "cheat" filehosts like Rapidshare, MegaUpload etc.

In these days of big fat media files, whether these be music, video, games, software or other such thing, there are a pile of services out there to let you send stuff to your pals without having to stick to silly email size restriction limits. Basically you upload your file to a host, such as MegaUpload or Rapidshare, they produce a link, and your friend downloads it from the web. Simple. Well, simple if you only want a single file and are happy to wait around for it.

To prevent abuse of such usually-free services, there tend to be restrictions such as only being able to download one file at once, only being allowed to download so many megabytes and hour, having to wait for a few minutes before commencing and so on. Your choices tend to be put up with this or pay up. Unless you use something like Universal Share Downloader.

Whilst this isn't one of the many guides to "get free rapidshare accounts" or "hack megaupload limits", most of which are probably untrue anyway, with this program you can now download your pirate music, porn and big files friends send you much more easily. Download and start the program, hit the Add Files button and paste in the links of the files you want to download. And go away and wait.

This lets you set up downloads of many files at the same time. It isn't a hack or crack to bypass the rules per se, so you can usually only download one file at a time from a given service, but the difference is you don't have to wait around to manually download each one.

True, many of the services have CAPTCHAs - text you need to enter to proceed to download the file to prevent automated bots messing around - which you might assume meant you had to check back every so often to fill them out. Where it can though, Universal Share Downloader will bypass them via OCR. Go to sleep, and wake up the next day with your shiny new videos et al. Where possible, it also allows file resumes should something get interrupted, but this is dependent on the support of the hosting service you're using.

Edging onto the side of vague hackery, the program also supports a proxy list. This is useful for the services that only let you download a certain amount of file-size per hour, such as Rapidshare. Once fed with a list of proxies - of the sort available here - it will attempt to download files via using a different proxy. The hosting service won't realise you're the same person, and hence you won't have to wait hours for it to start.

It supports a relatively massive list of different hosts via plugins, and will recognise which one to use when you enter the download link in. These include Rapidshare, Megaupload, MyTempDir, Sendmefile, File Factory, Easyshare, Yousendit, TurboUpload and many, many more.

All for free too!
